 IPS Sensor Software Version 6.2 and E3 Engine for Cisco IPS 4200 Series Sensors extend 

Cisco’s market-leading IPv4 threat protection to both IPv6 and IPv4 networks. The IPv6 detection 

capabilities in E3 Engine are only active with Cisco IPS Sensor Software version 6.2 or higher. 

For maximum deployment flexibility, customers can deploy a single Cisco IPS 4200 Series Sensor 

with Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 6.2 and E3 Engine to protect their critical assets whether 

they have an IPv4 network, an IPv6 network, or a hybrid IPv4 and IPv6 network. The new software 

and engine provide investment protection for customers planning or considering migration to IPv6 

or hybrid IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Cisco IPS 4200 Series Sensors with Cisco IPS Sensor Software 

Version 6.2 and E3 Engine are critical to meeting federal and other compliance mandates 

requiring IPv6 support. 

Customers can use Cisco IPS Device Manager or Cisco IPS Manager Express to manage their 

Cisco IPS 4200 Series Sensors with Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 6.2 and E3 Engine. The 

new software and engine are supported on all IPS platforms, including the Cisco IPS 4200 Series, 

the Cisco ASA 5500 Series IPS solution, the Cisco Catalyst

®

 6500 Series Intrusion Detection 

System Services Module (IDSM-2), the Cisco IPS Advanced Integration Module (AIM-IPS), and the 

Cisco IPS Network Module (NME-IPS). However, the IPv6 protection capabilities are only 

supported on the Cisco IPS 4200 Series.
