Figure 2 illustrates the logical VNE layer. The VNEs are autonomous “device emulators” running
on the unit servers illustrated in Figure 1. Each VNE interacts with its respective network element,
discovers its physical/logical inventory and connectivity, and maintains a virtual, in-memory model
of the device.
