International Color Consortium profiles
HP provides cyan-magenta-yellow-black (CMYK) (HP9500C.ICM) and standard redgreen-blue
(sRGB) (HP9500R.ICM) International Color Consortium (ICC) profiles with its HP Color LaserJet
9500mfp. The CMYK profile can only be used with a postscript driver; the sRGB profile can be used
with any of the HP Color LaserJet 9500mfp drivers. The profiles are available on the HP Web site at
the following URL:
.
ICC profiles describe the way color will be interpreted in the default CMYK and RGB modes. These
profiles can be used for color conversions in a color-managed workflow. The sRGB profile matches
the default RGB mode (sRGB), which is enabled with the Screen Match or Color Options setting in
either a PCL or postscript driver. The printer interprets CMYK data according to the Specifications for
Web Offset Publications (SWOP) simulation when Default is the selected CMYK Inks setting in the
postscript driver, and a more accurate SWOP rendering can be produced by selecting the SWOP
setitng. This standard defines how a particular set of CMYK ink colors should behave. Emulation for
Dainippon Press (DIC) and Euro-standard CMYK inks used in the Far East and Europe are also
available and can be selected from the printer driver.
PANTONE color profiles
Most application programs that support the use of PANTONE colors for graphic objects will include
the PANTONE name in the PostScript output along with the color values assigned to the object.
When SWOP is selected as the CMYK Inks setting, these CMYK values provide a good
reproduction of the PANTONE 4C spot color simulations.
PANTONE provides device- and application-specific palettes for some HP Color LaserJet products.
Using the custom colors in these palettes can provide an alternate match to the 4C spot color
simulation, however, these files will not be portable to other devices.
PANTONE Application Palettes
are available on the Web at the following URL:
Vector graphics such as company logos created in PANTONE Application Palettes can be imported
into Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or other Microsoft Office applications. To do this, the color
application must create an encapsulated postscript (EPS) file of the image for insertion as a file into
the Office document (using the insert file function).
NOTE
Cutting and pasting from the clipboard does not work. These tasks do not preserve
the PANTONE name or the CMYK palette value.
HP Embedded Web Server and HP Toolbox
HP Embedded Web Server (HP EWS) and HP Toolbox are both tools that can be used to remotely
configure printers on a network. Both HP EWS and HP Toolbox are used with a Web browser and
they have a similar look and feel. Many of the pages in HP EWS are nearly identical to HP Toolbox
pages. However, there are several key differences between the two utilities:
HP Toolbox is used to manage the printers that are installed on the client machine where
Toolbox is installed. Toolbox gets the address of the printers from the registry entry of the port
that the printer is using.
HP Toolbox can also be used to manage locally connected printers.
