To find an aviation destination and 
simulate navigation in Aviation Mode:
1.  Press up on the 
ROCKER to increase the 
simulated speed. The aircraft symbol now 
begins moving on the magenta route line. 
2.  Press 
QUIT or PAGE to return to the Map 
Page. Press in or out to adjust the zoom 
level. Observe the movement of the aircraft 
symbol   as the unit simulates navigation. 
Press 
PAGE or QUIT to view the simulated 
navigation on the other main pages. 
Using DIRECT TO Key
The GPSMAP 96/96C includes an internal Jeppesen
®
 
database, and memory for up to 1,000 user-created 
waypoints. The GPSMAP 96 accepts 22MB, while 
the GPSMAP 96C accepts 118MB of MapSource 
data. The Jeppesen database provides position and 
facility information for  airports, VORs, NDBs, and 
more. Updates to the Jeppesen database are available 
every 28 days online (www.garmin.com). The update 
program is designed to operate on 
Windows
®
-compatible PCs and requires the USB 
Cable to connect to a PC. The following information 
is provided from the Jeppesen database:
Airport—* identifier, facility name, city/state/
country, position (latitude/longitude), field elevation, 
available fuel types, runway designations/layout, 
runway surface(s), runway length(s), runway width(s), 
runway lighting, runway traffic pattern direction 
data, communication frequencies, and published 
approaches.
Weather—associated with an airport (ASOS, ATIS, 
and AWOS).
VORs—* identifier, facility name, city/state/country, 
position (latitude/longitude), frequency, service 
volume (high, low, terminal), and type (such as VOR-
DME, TACAN, and VORTAC). 
NDBs—* identifier, facility name, city/state/country, 
position (latitude/longitude), and frequency.
