Harpoon II
Operating Instructions
types of patrol movement patterns for ships:
• Sprint-Drift - a series of high speed runs followed by a
reduction of speed to drift. Used to make passive sonar
  observations during the “drift.”
• Station Keep -  speed and course are constantly changed
to
maintain an exact distance and heading in relation
to the
  center of the patrol zone.
• Random  - the unit randomly selects a side of the patrol
zone, finds the midpoint of that side, then transits to that
location.
Aircraft will loiter in their Patrol Zone stations and will conduct one of
the following types of patrol profiles:
•  Combat  Air  Patrol  (CAP)
•  Airborne  Early  Warning  (AEW)
•  Dipping  Sonar  -  For  equipped  Helicopters
•  Sonobuoy  -  For  equipped  Aircraft/Helicopters
•  Surface  Combat  Air  Patrol  (SUCAP)
The Formation Editor can only be used with groups.  To create a group
from two or more units, you should start by selecting all the units you
wish assigned to the group.  Select all these units by using the drag-
select or by using shift-click to select each one individually.  Once all
of the units are selected, use the hot key to create a group with all
of the selected units.  Consult the Harpoon II Command Card to learn
which hot key is used by your type of computer.  Another way to
create a group is by selecting a single unit and holding the mouse
button down and dragging a line from the selected unit to another
unit.  A group symbol will appear after you let go of the mouse button.
If this symbol does not appear, try toggling the Group/Unit hot key.
Note: When grouping aircraft, keep in mind that the units must be the
same platform type, have the same loadout types, and be on identical
missions. In addition, submarines are never included in a Harpoon II
formation.
After you have a group symbol (either the double circle symbol NTDS
or the three-ship symbol for Stylized) displayed, select it and press
the  Formation  Editor  toolbar  button.    This  action  will  create  a
Formation Editor window containing everything in the area covered
by a group's patrols or units.  There will also be several range circles
