With the D-1A series, Sony takes its original D-1 digital
4:2:2 component format to new levels of performance.
Improvements in the magnetic particles, binder system, and
backcoating add up to greater reliability.
Improved magnetic characteristics for high output
Thanks to Sony's Hi-packing
technology and powerful
magnetic particles, retentivity is
now 25% higher and coercivity is
5% higher than the previous D-1
tape. This helps raise RF output
by 2dB to achieve excellent high
data integrity.
Low rubbing noise
With the D-1 magnetic layer's
high output characteristics and
optimized tape surface design,
rubbing noise has been reduced.
In low humidity environments
especially, this suppression of
rubbing noise has also
successfully improved error rate.
A superb backcoating further
improves tape stability to
maintain low friction after
repeated high-speed passes while
editing.

New reel improves tape winding
The D-1 reels have been designed with specially molded
radial grooves. They not only protect against air being trapped
between tape layers during FFW and REW operations, but have
also reduced tape damage caused by uneven tape winding.
