Cummins to Bendix Compressor Changeover
When changing over from a Cummins manufactured compressor to a Bendix compressor on
the Phase III engine, some of the drive components must also be changed.  Make certain that
adequate clearance is available on the engine for the Bendix compressor model selected.
Cummins recommends when changing any compressors at any time to always replace the
spider coupling Cummins Part No. 162426.
When installing the 501 compressor on the Cummins in-line engine, always be certain the
sleeve coupling stop, piece number 290582, is installed between the coupling and crankshaft
at the driven end of the compressor.  The sleeve coupling stop is part of the compressor
assembly.
One important point we want to bring to your attention; when pressing the gear on the
crankshaft of the Tu-Flo 501 compressor, the maximum load permissible is 5,800 pounds.  Do
not exceed this load or you will damage the crankshaft.
