The Cisco MDS 9000 family of datacenter fabric
switches is a comprehensive line of SAN switches that
fulfills the needs of storage networks of all sizes and
architectures to help customers drive storage consoli -
dation, increase data availability and more efficiently
manage their storage resources.
The Cisco MDS 9100 series Fibre Channel fabric
switches expand our broad portfolio of storage area
networking (SAN) products. These switches offer high
performance, scalability, and in conjunction with other
MDS 9000 switches, deliver intelligent network services
such as virtual SANs (VSANs), advanced traffic man -
agement, embedded diagnostics, role-based security
and application-level quality of service. Through an
embedded Cisco Fabric Manager, integration with HP
Storage Essentials, and HP OpenView software, the
Cisco MDS Family delivers unified SAN management,
providing ease of administration and improving
productivity.
The Cisco 9100 series switches are 4-, 2-, and1-Gbs
auto-sensing Fibre Channel switches that provide “pay
as you grow,” on-demand port activation. This feature
allows users to start with as few as 8 active ports for
the Cisco MDS 9124 Fabric Switch or 12 ports with
the Cisco MDS 9124e Fabric Switch for HP c-class
BladeSystem. With its flexibility to expand from 8 to
24 ports in 8-port increments, the MDS 9124 switch
offers the densities required for both departmental
storage area networks (SAN) and edge switches in
enterprise SANs.
Cisco MDS 9124 Series Fabric
Switches
The Cisco MDS 9124 and the Cisco MDS 9124e
Fabric Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem save money,
save space, and simplify management. They also
provide data protection and secure services for both
departmental workgroups and SMB customers. The
switches are easy to configure, offer higher levels of
performance, and improve overall network storage
productivity.
The Cisco MDS 9124 Series Fabric Switches support
up to 24 4Gbs ports, providing you with the ability
to deploy high-performance SANs. They also support
VSAN, an industry-standard for fabric virtualization,
enabling more efficient network use by creating
hardware-based isolated environments within a single
physical SAN fabric or switch. Advanced traffic man -
age ment features, such as PortChannels, virtual output
queuing and Fabric Shortest Path First (FSPF), simplify
deployment while optimizing fabric performance.
