Overview
The RapidFire Token Ring 16/4 PCI adapters
offer high performance, low CPU utilization and
a rich set of valuable features, such as Wake-
on-LAN and remote boot support. The RapidFire
is available as Standard PCI profile, 3140 and
the Low Profile PCI format as 31-04. Also
available with fixed BootROM (special order).
Easy integration
RapidFire 3140 easily integrates into any
network. It is compatible with the latest PCI-
based systems and supports automatic detection
and selection of the following parameters:
•
4 or 16 Mbps ring speed
•
STP or UTP cable type
•
Full-duplex (DTR) or shared Token Ring
connection
Network drivers for most major operating
systems are available from
www.madge.com/software
. Unattended
installation is supported for Windows
simplifying workstation rollouts.
Madge LAN Support Software (LSS) supports not
only RapidFire 3140, but also all other Madge
Token Ring adapters including CardBus, GoCard
and PCMCIA and is available from our Web site.
This single suite of drivers reduces the amount
of software to be maintained and means that a
single installation image or procedure can be
used across all desktops, workstations, laptops
and servers.
Value and performance
RapidFire is the most cost-effective Token Ring
connection. It features a high performance PCI
bus master interface and has been enhanced
with important new features that make it an
ideal 16/4 Token Ring adapter.
Advanced feature set
As well as ease-of-use, cost effective pricing and
high performance, RapidFire 3140 supports the
industry initiatives including Wake -on-LAN,
Remote Boot, ACPI (Advanced Configuration and
Power Interface) and promiscuous mode
(network interrogation) support.
The BootROM socket (or fixed device) allows remote
boot functionality. This gives Network Administrators
the ability to make PC start up more secure and
controllable.
The Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
(ACPI) is a industry standard for PCI devices. It
allows an ACPI-aware PC to understand the
power consumption requirements of each PCI
device. This means an ACPI operating system
such as Windows 2000 can economically control
the power state of a PC. The PC can be
automatically placed in a low power state and
quickly resume full operation at the command of
the user or of a re mote management console
using Microsoft OnNow.
