Modem Integration Guide 

A unique number for each GSM Terminal tracked by the GSM operators in 
their Equipment Identity Register (EIR) database. 

A unique number identifying the subscriber stored in the SIM card.  
Number is used in conjunction with the network for call routing.

closest to using a modem over a fixed PSTN line.
