As a network data server, the function of the PowerVault 720N, 740N, or 760N filer is
to move data over the network in response to a client request. The filer uses
Data ONTAP™ operating system software to do so. The data is stored on storage
disks that reside in PowerVault 700N storage systems connected to the filer. In addi-
tion, a SCSI tape backup device is recommended for regular backups to protect your
data. Therefore, a complete system consists of a filer connected to one or more
PowerVault 700N storage systems, plus an optional (but recommended) tape backup
device.
