SwissFlash – the ultimate business tool

With its new SwissFlash range, Victorinox, manufacturer of the world famous Swiss
pocket knives, is once again setting new standards when it comes to integrating USB
sticks into universal pocket tools. Not only has the SwissFlash family enabled the
company to close the technology gap on the market leaders from the IT industry, it has
also raised the bar in terms of speed and storage density. In addition, the memory
sticks in the SwissFlash range are the only ones in the world which give a visual
indication of the operating status and also use the LED colour to signal the operating
mode (write protected or normal).
Other special features of the write protection switch include the interface adapter and
voltage converter integrated in the controller. This allows it to work with most of the
commercially available devices with a USB port – such as flat screens and photo
printers – without a computer.
The SwissFlash memory sticks combine a very high level of compatibility with all the
new functions of Windows Vista. All SwissFlash sticks support the new Vista functions
such as Ready Boost in addition to Windows Vista Business functions such as Bit
Locker.
One other striking feature is the new, ultra-transparent housing which allows the user
to see the miniaturised technology and glows red or green according to the operating
mode. When accessing data, it flashes red or green. The user can therefore identify
the operating status of the memory stick at all times, even when it is connected to a
multimedia device which has no display.
The modules are available in all Victorinox SwissFlash pocket knives in 1 GB to 16 GB
in combination with a new-style laser pointer or ultra-bright LED.
However, this would not be a true Victorinox product if the laser pointer and integrated
light diode were not also new, high-quality innovations.
The laser pointer is the smallest in its class and boasts an APC (automatic power
control) and also a safety dimmer – all in dimensions of just a few millimetres. The
laser pointer is operated using just one small button cell battery.
The integrated LED light also requires only a single small button cell, despite producing
a light beam of up to 18,000 mcd, equivalent to the light of a normal torch. The
specially developed LED contains two integrated chips fitted in such a way that the
LED will continue to function even if one of the two chips or a connecting lead fails.
The LED solution also features a battery alert function which gives the user advance
