Ping
The Ping test bounces a packet off a machine on the Internet back to the sender. This test shows if
the firewall router is able to contact the remote host. If users on the LAN are having problems
accessing services on the Internet, try pinging the DNS server or another machine at the ISP's
location. If this test is successful, try pinging devices outside the ISP. This will show if the problem
lies with the ISP's connection.

From the “Choose a diagnostic tool” box, select Ping.

Packet Trace
The Packet Trace tool tracks the status of a communications stream as it moves from source to
destination. This is a useful tool to determine if a communications stream is being stopped at the
firewall router, or is lost on the Internet.

To execute a packet trace to a remote host:
1.
From the “Choose a diagnostic tool” box, select Packet Trace.
2.
In the “Trace on IP address” box, type the IP address of the remote host.
3.
Click Start.
