This chapter describes the commands and procedures for managing the users of a 5100/6100 

VDR. 
The VDR administrator is responsible for controlling access to the unit by assigning appropriate 

levels of entry in terms of user identity to the 5100/6100 VDR. Only Root users can add or delete 

other users.
The 5100/6100 VDR has two preconfigured default users with the following identities (according 

to the format login/password/user privileges): user/user/read and admin/admin/root 
While all users can view the User Table, only root can add, edit, or delete users. Passwords can be 

changed by individual users or by the root administrator, but root level users cannot delete their 

own accounts. The User Table supports a maximum of five users with any combination of access 

level.
Only one user with write access is allowed to be logged into a 5100/6100 VDR at one time. 

Account time-out values ensure that, if you forget to logout, the session will time out giving 

someone else the opportunity to have access to the 5100/6100 VDR.

Note. To change the default password for the system, use the set user modify 

command. See Modifying user password, page 48.

Once you have the unit functioning satisfactorily, you can change the default password and add, 

modify, or delete users.
