FireWire DriveDock™
User’s Manual

Installation Instructions:
1.
Attach bottom plate to your 3.5 inch IDE hard drive. Attach bottom plate to your drive. Use

Set drive to “Master” (or rarely, to “Cable Select”). The drive you used must be jumpered as
a master. Usually this information is printed on a label directly on the drive. Otherwise, check
with the manufacturer. In rare circumstances, certain drives are required to be jumpered as
“Cable Select” (usually Western Digital drives).

Attach DriveDock to your drive. The forty pin IDE connector on the DriveDock matches exactly
with your drive. The connector has a polarization pin installed. Ensure that you have carefully
lined it up. Attach the DriveDock to your drive, using extreme care to ensure that no pins are
bent. Attach the four pin power cable from the DriveDock to the drive. First installation may be

4.
Power supply. Power must be supplied to DriveDock by the AC adapter. Once power is
attached, the DriveDock is ready to attach to a computer utilizing a FireWire cable (not included).

5.
Access light. The other light will briefly illuminate after the unit is powered up. Thereafter, it will
illuminate whenever the drive is accessed. If the drive does not briefly illuminate after power up,
it may indicate a problem with the DriveDock or the drive.

Usage with a Mac. Operation is plug and play under Mac OS 9.1, 9.2 and OSX

Usage with CD/DVD Drives. The power connector may not clear the unit. If this is the case,
one of the power connector plastic tabs may be trimmed off with a knife.

Usage with DVD-RAM or MO. User experiences indicate that this does not work, due to
unknown incompatibilities between these units and Oxford 911 bridge chips.

10.
Macintosh Booting. The firmware supports FireWire booting on a Mac.

In the event that you experience Radio Frequency Interference, you should take the following steps to resolve the problem:
