Causes
• The power cord is disconnected.
• There is external noise interfering with the
computer circuits of the AV receiver.
• Amplifier protection circuitry has been
activated.
• Power supply fluctuations or other
abnormalities such as static electricity
may interrupt correct operation.
• The muting function is activated.
• The AV receiver is not properly
connected.
• Input selector is not set properly.
• Headphones are connected.
• The input signal format is set to “PCM”.
• The speakers are not properly connected.
• The listening mode is set to “Stereo” or
“Orchestra”.
• The volume level of the center speaker
(“Center”) is set to minimum.
• A speaker configuration without the center
speaker is selected.
• The placement of the audio connection
cables on the rear panel is incorrect.
• Treble control too high.
• Subwoofer mode is set to “Off”.
• Subwoofer mode setting is improper.
• The TV is not set to receive the output
signals from the AV receiver.
• The video cable is not connected
securely.
• Only the S video connection is made.
• Another input source is selected.
• Any wrong mode button is pressed.
• No batteries are inserted in the remote
controller.
• The batteries are worn out.
• The remote controller is not pointed at the
remote sensor of the AV receiver.
• The remote controller is too far from the
AV receiver.
Remedies
• Check the connection of the power cord.
• Disconnect the power cord, then connect it
again.
• Contact your Onkyo Service Center.
• Disconnect the power cord, then connect it
again.
• Deactivate the muting function.
• Check the connections to the AV receiver.
• Set to correct input source.
• Decrease the volume, then disconnect the
headphones.
• Set the input signal format to “Auto”.
• Check the speaker connections.
• No sound is reproduced from the center
speaker when the listening mode is
“Stereo” or “Orchestra”.
• Adjust the volume level of the center
speaker.
• Check that the selected speaker
configuration includes the center speaker.
• Adjust the placement of the cable to
reduce hum.
• Use AUDIO ADJUST function to cut the
treble response.
• Check the subwoofer mode setting.
• Check the subwoofer mode setting.
• Set the TV to the AV receiver’s input.
• Check the connections between the AV
receiver and TV set.
• Also make video connection. Check the
TV’s video input and AV receiver’s output
signal.
• Select the appropriate input source.
• Press the appropriate mode control
button.
• Insert new batteries.
• Replace with new batteries.
• Point the remote controller at the remote
sensor of the AV receiver.
• Operate the remote controller within
16 feet (5 m).
Symptoms
The AV receiver doesn’t
switch on.
Power shuts off
immediately after power on.
The buttons on the remote
controller and AV receiver
do not operate.
No sound is reproduced.
No sound or very little
sound is reproduced from
the center speaker.
Hum, low-frequency noise.
Rough or scratchy sound.
High range is not clear.
No sound or very low
volume from subwoofer.
No picture appears on the
TV screen.
The sound of the playback
source is not heard.
The buttons on the AV
receiver operate but the
buttons on the remote
controller do not operate.
