You manage the switch stack through the stack master. You cannot manage stack members 
on an individual basis. To access the stack master, use either a serial connection to the 
switch master’s console port or a Telnet connection to the IP address of the stack.

You can use these methods to manage switch stacks:

Web management interface.

CLI (over a serial connection).

A network management application through SNMP.

A switch stack is a set of up to eight switches that are connected through their stack ports. 

The switch that controls the operation of the stack is the stack master. The stack master and 
the other switches in the stack are stack members. Stack members use stacking technology 
to behave and work together as a unified system. Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols present the 
entire switch stack as a single entity to the network. 

The following figure shows an example of switches that are interconnected to form a stack.
