M3 Shadow Server Backup
Another backup method is MeetingPlace M3 Shadow Server. The M3
Shadow Server is a backup system that can replace the M3 conference server
in case there is a system or site failure. The switchover of the shadow server
ensures that complete MeetingPlace functionality (excluding voice and
attachment data) can be returned with a minimum loss of time and disruption
in service. For more information regarding the M3 Shadow Server, see
Appendix J.

Tape Backup
As a second line of resort, the MeetingPlace M3 server is also equipped with
a tape drive for tape backups. A tape backup only copies the configuration
and scheduled meeting information in your MeetingPlace database. None of
the voice recordings, such as profile names and meeting names, are included
in the backup.

The length of time a backup takes depends on the amount of load on your
system. In general, backing up the MeetingPlace database takes
approximately one hour, but it could take longer if your system is heavily
loaded with lots of meetings and scheduling activity at the time of backup.

Guidelines for Tape Backups
When backing up your system, consider these suggestions:
•
Schedule regular daily backups
•
Schedule backups at night
•
Rotate the tapes regularly
•
Label backup tapes clearly
•
Protect your backup tapes. Write-protect them, and keep them in a
locked cabinet

•
Keep one recent backup tape off-site in a locked, fireproof location
The scheduling of your backups depends on the number of users, the
frequency of configuration changes that occur in your system, and your own
corporate backup guidelines.

Performing the Tape Backup
To back up the MeetingPlace database, insert the backup tape into the
MeetingPlace system, and then, from your workstation, enter information
about the backup in the Database Backup topic located in the System tab.
