Cisco® announces new Cisco IOS® Software for Cisco 2520 Connected Grid Switches (CGS 2520s). These rugged
switches are optimized for use in transmission and distribution (T&D) power substations. They are designed for
substation networks to meet the harsh environments common in T&D substations. This product bulletin contains
content and delivery information for Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(53)EX.
The platform and features delivered with this ED release will be immediately incorporated into Cisco IOS Software
Release 12.2(58)SE and subsequent Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2SE train releases. It is important to note that
there are no planned maintenance releases for this ED release. In addition, please note the migration path to the
latest S release. Customers should prepare to upgrade using the migration path shown in Figure 1.

Detailed Information
Utility Smart Grid SmartPort Templates
Utility-specific SmartPort templates are included that allow you to apply default global or interface-level macros with
a recommended configuration. Then you can easily set up the switch in a configuration optimized for utility
deployments. The SmartPort macros configure security, quality of service (QoS), and logging functions to enhance
ease of use and minimize configuration errors.
