Introduction
This document describes steps to resolve an issue in which an Aggregation Services Router (ASR) 5x00
Series cannot be accessed via the remote login or by console login.
Prerequisites
Requirements
Cisco requires that you have:
A serial cable provided by Cisco in order to connect to the ASR 5x00 Console port
• 
A workstation with the HyperTerminal application installed
• 
The latest configuration file of the ASR 5x00, saved on the router's flash card
• 
Warning: Any unsaved configuration will be lost when you perform the procedures in this article.
Components Used
The information in this document is based on the Aggregation Services Router (ASR) 5x00 Series.
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the
devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure
that you understand the potential impact of any command.
Problem
The ASR 5x00 chassis is not accessible via SSH/Telnet and the console login does not work.
In order to reproduce the problem, complete these steps:
Connect the RJ−45 end of the cable to the port labeled Console on the router.
