The OptoStar II intelligent communications interface module uses a standard 
19-in OptoStar II chassis. The flexibility of the platform is greatly improved by the 
fact that a single chassis can hold both intelligent communications interface 
module and other OptoStar II modules. The intelligent communications interface 
module is always located in the left-most slot of the standard 3 RU OptoStar II 
Chassis. This module is used for communication between each module and the 
bus of the network management system, and as an alarm for system failure.
