The most recent Sophos anti-virus scanning engine imposes a maximum limit to the
number of entries in a PDF’s cross-reference tables to avoid malformed files from using
too much memory. The scanning engine returns “unscannable” for PDFs that exceed the
maximum limit even if they are not malformed. Cisco IronPort is working with Sophos
to resolve this issue in a future Sophos engine update.
