SAMSUNG 40nm GREEN DDR3 BENEFITS SERVER PLATFORMS 
Memory’s contribution to system efficiency and power consumption
is highly significant. Therefore, the need for optimizing memory
efficiency has become extremely important.
Samsung 40nm class. 2Gb DDR3, which delivers bandwidth up to
1.6Gbps, consumes significantly less power than DDR2 and operates
with voltage as low as 1.35V. This provides the best performance-to-
power efficiency ratio on the market.
Actual measurements show that switching to Samsung’s
40nano-class Green DDR3 provides a 73% power savings over a
60nm-equivalent, 1.8V DDR2 memory and enables an efficiency ratio
of 92% (Watt/Gbps).

DATA CENTERS WITH SAMSUNG GREEN DDR3
Data centers are the fourth largest contributor to world pollution after the
airline, shipyard and steel industries, and demand for data center space
is outpacing supply in many areas. Moreover, according to the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, without optimization in data centers,
total power consumption will grow at an astronomical rate.
Since memory directly impacts server performance as well as power
consumption, the optimization of a data center is considerably
improved by choosing the right memory. This has immediate effects
on CO2 emissions as well as the total cost of system ownership.

As table 1 shows:
1. For a given data center that runs within a power budget replacing its
servers with new servers that house Samsung’s Green DDR3 increases
server unit capacity by 60% without increasing the power envelope.
2. A 1:1 replacement of old servers with new servers that house Samsung
Green DDR3 results in 36% power savings.
