When the face appears small on the
screen
When there is rapid movement of subjects
When the subject is other than a human
being
When there is jitter
When the digital zoom is used
About 3-area-focusing/1-area-focusing
(High speed)
You can focus on the subject more
quickly than other AF modes.
Pictures may become still in the condition
they were in before the subject was
focused when you press the shutter button
halfway. However, it is not a malfunction.
When using the
digital zoom or when
you take pictures in
dark places, the AF
area is displayed
on the centre of the
screen with a size wider than usual.
When multiple AF areas (max. 9 areas)
light at the same time, the camera is
focusing on all the AF areas. The focus
position is not predetermined because
it is set to the position the camera
automatically determines at the time of
focusing. If you want to determine the
focus position to take pictures, switch the
AF mode to 1-area-focusing or 1-area-
focusing (high speed) mode.
If AF mode is set to 9-area-focusing or
3-area-focusing (high speed), AF area is
not displayed until the focus is aligned.
The camera may detect the subjects
other than a person as the faces. In this
case, switch to other AF modes.
The face detection cannot be set in the
following modes.
[NIGHT SCENERY],
[ILLUMINATIONS], [CREATIVE NIGHT
SCENERY], [FOOD], [STARRY SKY],

[FIREWORKS] and [AERIAL PHOTO]
modes

QUICK AF

will be faster when the shutter button
is pressed as the camera automatically
adjusts the focus when there is not much
jittering.
Setting is fixed to [ON] in Intelligent auto
mode [
].
Quick AF cannot be set in the following
modes:
[NIGHT PORTRAIT], [NIGHT
SCENERY], [ILLUMINATIONS],
[CREATIVE NIGHT SCENERY],
