Before removing the fingerprint reader, follow these steps:

Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.

Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

Remove the battery (see 

Remove the service access cover (see 

Remove the optical drive (see 

) or upgrade bay hard drive (see 

).

Remove the keyboard (see 

Remove the top cover (see 

).

Remove the fingerprint reader:

Position the top cover upside down with the front toward you.

Slide the fingerprint reader cable (1) out from the 3 clips in the top cover and remove it.

Peel off the tape (2) that secures the fingerprint reader to the top cover.

Lift the fingerprint reader (3) from the top cover.

Reverse this procedure to install the fingerprint reader.
