The features included with the IBM Upward Integration for VMware vSphere V1.3

provides VMware customers the ability to manage power monitoring; hardware

error/failure monitoring and firmware updates; migration of virtual machines; and

remote management of servers independent of Guest Operating System state.

All this can be done for System x servers, through VMware vCenter.

The IBM Upward Integration for VMware provides:

• Basic platform management:

– Automated reporting of hardware problems and collection of system service

information

– Simplified installation and update processes for operating systems and system

firmware

• Energy monitoring

– Monitoring and trend analysis of electrical energy usage and thermal

characteristics, including servers and other facilities equipment such as

uninterruptible power supplies, power distribution units, sensors, probes, and

computer room air conditioning units

• Energy management

– Setting and managing to energy usage limits across one or more servers

• One year of software Subscription and Support is included with the license.

IBM IMM Advanced Upgrade
The IBM IMM Advanced Upgrade option works as an upgrade to the Integrated

Management Module by providing full remote control of your System x servers.

The IBM Virtual Media Key allows administrators to fully manage servers remotely,

regardless of server or operating system condition with:

• Remote viewing of video with graphics resolution up to 1080 x 1024 regardless of

the server state

• Access to the server, using the keyboard and mouse from a remote client
• The ability to map a client CD, DVD, or USB flash drive to the remote server
• The ability to mount an ISO image to use as a virtual drive on the remote server
• The ability to use Windows-based Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
• The ability to capture the last Windows
