8. Preparations
The model ship „Rocket“ is delivered nearly ready for operation. Only a few steps, such as installation of the receiver
system, are required for commissioning.
Before completing the model or taking it into operation, read each section carefully. The construction stages
are almost always illustrated for better understanding.
Please note that the numbers in the text always refer to the components in the illustration to the right.
Models of this category are, however, usually assembled according to the user’s own wishes and ideas.
Only carry out the steps described in the different sections if you have completely understood the procedure
and know exactly what to observe.
a) Installation and Connection of the Servo
Water is much harder than air. Therefore, ship models require steering servos with a much higher actuating
power as compared to boat size than plane models would. See our catalogues at www.conrad.com for tried
and tested accessories.
• The adjacent figure shows the opened RC box
with the steering servo (1), the speed controller
(2), as well as a possible installation site for the
receiver (3).
• Take off the hull deck by pushing in the closure
while also turning it clockwise at a 90° angle.
• Remove the screws of the RC box and remove
the cover.
• Screw the steering servo into the holder of the RC
box as displayed in figure 1. Use the accessories
from the servo’s scope of delivery.
• Connect the steering servo to channel 1 of the
receiver. Start the remote control system.
The receiver is ideally not supplied with the BEC of the speed controller yet, but by a receiver battery (or battery box)
from the accessories of the remote control system. For this, observe the operating instructions for the remote control
system.
• Set the steering and the associated trimming to the neutral position at the activated transmitter. Attach the rudder
horn of the servo to the „Z“ of the thrust rod and place the rudder horn on the servo so that the rudder horn is aligned
precisely like the servo in the longitudinal direction in its neutral position (see figure 1). Secure the rudder horn at the
servo output with the central screw.
• Check the function of the steering servo. The connection of the rudder to the steering rods is explained in one of the
following chapters.
