Troubleshooting “Mod 42” or “Module 42” Diagnostic Trouble Codes
The purpose of this Bulletin is to clarify the actions to take when a “Mod 42”  or “Module 42” Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) is reported on certain vehicle dash displays.  It is important to understand that
the cause of this DTC is unlikely to be related to the radar system.
“Mod 42”  or “Module 42” DTCs may be caused by one, or more, of these systems using the J1939
communication network on the vehicle, such as the:
•  brake system
•  dash
•  engine
•  logistic tracking systems
•  radar system, or
•  transmission
Bendix is aware that this DTC has sometimes been erroneously associated with radar issues, however
this DTC requires further investigation to accurately diagnose.  We caution that any assumption that
this DTC is a radar problem may result in unnecessary maintenance being performed.
Actions To Take
To investigate the “Mod 42”  or “Module 42” DTC, we recommend that the vehicle be serviced by
the dealer or other qualified technician with access to the full range of diagnostic tools to investigate
all the systems using the J1939 network to determine the root cause.
The dealer or other qualified technician can use Bendix
®
 ACom
®
 Diagnositics to obtain a DTC
report for both the Bendix ABS and radar systems.  If there are, in fact any ABS or radar issues,
use the applicable Bendix Service Data sheets (available for download from www.bendix.com) to
help address the problem.
Additional assistance is available from the Bendix Tech Team at 1‑800‑AIR‑BRAKE (1‑800‑247‑2725),
select option 2, then 1.
