The 

 component  performs live protect ion of files and folders against

viruses, spyware and other malware.

In t he Resident Shield Settings dialog you can act ivate or deact ivat e t he 

 protect ion complet ely by checking/unchecking t he Enable Resident Shield

it em (this option is switched on by default). In addition you can select  which

 features should be act ivat ed:

 Scan cookies - t his paramet er defines t hat  cookies should be det ect ed during

scanning. (HTTP cookies are used for authenticating, tracking, and maintaining
specific information about users, such as site preferences or the contents of
their electronic shopping carts) 

 Scan Potentially Unwanted Programs - (switched on by default) scanning

for 

 (executable applications that can behave as

various types of spyware or adware)

 Scan on process closing -  on-close scanning ensures t hat  AVG scans act ive

object s (e.g. applicat ions, document s …) when t hey are being opened, and
