When photographs turn out too dark:

The subject was too bright.
Adjust the 
exposure
 or change the angle of shot.

Adjust the angle of shot and remove obstructive objects.
The subject was too far from the camera for the 
flash to be effective.
Move closer to the subject. Alternatively, turn off the 
flash

 button down steadily.
The lens is dirty.
Use a lens blower (sold in the market) to rid the lens of dust. Then wipe 
with lens cleaning paper.
Photographer was standing in front of the 
camera when pressing the shutter button (Self-
Timer shots).
Do not stand in front of the camera. Press the 
shutter
 button while 
looking through the viewfinder.
Flash is off even when the lighting condition is 
poor. As exposure time is prolonged, camera 
movement will cause the image to be off focus.
Either use a tripod stand, or use the 
flash
.
The subject is too near.
Shoot at a distance of more than 1.9 m.
