Virtual Router Redundancy (VRRP)
Motorola Netopia® Embedded Software Version 8.7.4 offers Vir tual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP). A
Vir tual Router is a software abstraction consisting of a group of two or more hardware routers protecting one or
more IP addresses. One of the routers is designated as the Master, while the others are backups. VRRP is a
protocol that provides redundancy to routers within a local area network by allowing alternate paths for a PC
without changing the IP address or MAC address by which the PC knows its gateway.
To configure Vir tual Routers, from the IP Setup screen select VRRP Options and press Return.
The Ethernet LAN VRRP Options screen appears.
Each logical IP inter face can have a maximum of two Vir tual Routers.
