Vpacket 5100/6100 Series Reference Manual
Setting the T1 WAN data protocol
You can configure a WAN interface to use either a frame relay or PPP data protocol by issuing the
set wan data protocol command. MLPPP is supported for the dual T1 WAN interface model for
incoming traffic; however, MLPPP fragmentation is not available at this time for traffic forwarded
from the 6100 VDR.
Note. The 5100/6100 VDR must be reset for changes to take effect.
Syntax: set wan data protocol < mlppp | ppp |funi | atm>
Argument:
mlppp | ppp | funi | atm
for a single T1 model, use ppp; for a dual T1 model, use mlppp; atm
choice is only viewable from a unit with an SDSL WAN interface
Example:
In this example, MLPPP is chosen for the data protocol. MLPPP is supported on the dual T1
model only.
Setting the encapsulation type (T1)
You can set the encapsulation type for the T1 WAN interface (voice and data) by issuing the set
wan encap command. HDIA encapsulation (1483Bridged, 1490Bridged, or 1490Routed) is
supported for interoperability with Copper Mountain T1 aggregators.
Syntax: set wan encap <1483Bridged | 1483Routed | 1490Bridged | 1490Routed>
Argument:
1483Bridged | 1483Routed | 1490Bridged |1490Routed
Copper Mountain T1 aggregators (HDIA) support 1483Bridged, 1490Bridged,
or 1490Routed; the Lucent Stinger supports 1483Bridged or 1483Routed;
Copper Mountain DSLAM supports 1483Bridged
Example:
In this example, the WAN encapsulation is set to 1483Bridged to interoperate with a Copper
Mountain T1 aggregator.
