Just as with exposure compensation (p. 78), you can adjust the exposure 
from –2 to +2 stops in 1/3-stop increments when using the flash.
Choose 
X.

After pressing the 
m button, press the 
op buttons to choose X.
Choose the amount of flash 
exposure compensation.
z
Press the 
qr buttons or turn the 5 dial to 
choose the amount of flash exposure 
compensation, then press the 
m button.
X
Once set, 
X will appear on the screen.
You can make the main subject, such as people, appear bright by having the 
camera provide the appropriate illumination with the flash. At the same time, 
you can use a slow shutter speed to brighten the background that the light 
from the flash cannot reach.
Raise the flash.

Safety FE
The camera automatically changes the shutter speed or aperture value when the 
flash fires to avoid overexposing and blowing out the highlights in the scene. 
However, if you press the 
n button to display the 4 tab and set [Safety FE] 
in [Flash Control] to [Off], the shutter speed and aperture value will not 
automatically adjust.
You can also set the flash exposure compensation by pressing the 
n button to choose [Flash Control] (p. 99) in the 4 tab, then choose 
[Flash Exp. Comp] and press the 
qr buttons to choose a setting.
If you hold down the 
h button for more than 1 second, the setting screen 
will appear. If you press the 
h button then immediately press the n 
button when the flash is raised, the setting screen will appear.
