When You Cannot Use NetSpot
This section describes how to solve problems with NetSpot.
NetSpot does not recognize printer
Problem 1: The network interface board and network cable are not correctly
connected.
Solution:
Check the following points then cycle the printer off and on.
• Make sure that the network interface board is installed correctly. (Æ
Setup Guide) The standard network printer does not require the
installation of the network interface board.
• Make sure that the correct type of cable is used to connect the printer to
the network. (Æ Setup Guide)
Problem 2: The Frame Type or IP Address settings for the printer are not set correctly
(when using NetSpot with TCP/IP protocol).
Solution:
Use NetSpot with the protocol enabled for the printer. If such a protocol is
not available, add the printer to NetSpot. (Æ “Setting the Printer IP
Address”, P.2-3)
Problem 3: The Frame Type is not set correctly for the printer (when using NetSpot
with NetWare
®
 protocol).
Solution:
Use NetSpot with the protocol enabled for the printer. If such a protocol is
not available, add the printer to NetSpot. (Æ “Setting the Printer IP
Address”, P.2-3)
Problem 4: The printer is not specified in the device search range (when using
NetSpot with TCP/IP protocol).
Solution:
In some cases, at initialization NetSpot may not recognize a printer on
different subnet. In addition, if the search range of the device has been
changed, NetSpot may lose recognition of another printer. In such a case,
use the following procedure to set the NetSpot search range for devices.
• Start NetSpot, and from the View menu, select Preferences. The
Discovery sheet is displayed.
• For the TCP/IP Discovery item select Default (255.255.255.255). This
setting allows the network to search all printers on the same subnet with
NetSpot. To set the search range for the network, select Specify
Addresses and add the IP addresses of all printers to be searched. (If you
add the IP address 255.255.255.255 then NetSpot will search for all
printers on the same subnet with NetSpot.
