Chapter 6 Managing MeetingPlace Web
Creating a MeetingPlace Authentication Filter in
IIS
IIS
Overview
The MeetingPlace Authentication Filter is used to provide a
customized authentication mechanism for IIS. MeetingPlace
system administrators who are concerned about security can use
HTTP authentication to protect the mpx.dll file from
unauthorized use.

IIS requires that you use NT accounts for the authentication.
Unfortunately, this requirement makes it necessary for
administrators to synchronize their MeetingPlace directories with
the Windows NT/2000 server or NT domain controller.
Unfortunately, this requirement makes it necessary for
administrators to synchronize their MeetingPlace directories with
the Windows NT/2000 server or NT domain controller.
To alleviate that requirement, Latitude has developed a custom
ISAPI filter that extends the authentication process of IIS. The
filter allows users to enter their MeetingPlace user ID and
password, which will be verified against the MeetingPlace
database of users. If the user is validated, they will be given
access to the NT resources via a proxy account.

Benefits
•
Restricted access to the mpx.dll file
•
Enhanced MeetingPlace user login through IIS
Installation
Creating a Proxy Account
IIS still requires a NT account to gain access to the restricted
resource. We will proxy all of the users through one account. The
IIS W3SVC log will show both the name of the proxy account as
well as the MeetingPlace ID of the user.
