7. 

Type /usr/sbin/shutdown –y  -g0  -i6 and then press Enter. 
Important:  Do not use the reboot or halt command to reboot the server. 
Results:  The system reboots and activates the SR 2.2 software. 

8. 

Did the system reboot without error? 
• 

If yes, go to step 14 to continue activating the old system release. 

• 

If no (an error message appeared), continue with step 9 to implement a 

work-around. 
Note:  The system may display a message that describes an error condition 

and then prompts you to provide the root password to implement the 

workaround in system maintenance mode. 

9. 

Type the root password and then press Enter. 
Results:  The system enters maintenance mode. 

10.  Type df  -k and then press Enter. 

Results:  The system displays the mounted filesystems. 
Note:  Note that there is no entry for /dev/md/dsk/d503. 

11.  Type mount  /var and then press Enter. 

Result:  The system should mount the /dev/md/dsk/d503 filesystem to 

/var. 

12.  Type df  -k and then press Enter. 

Results:  The system displays the mounted file systems. 
Note:  The system should now display an entry for /dev/md/dsk/d503. 

13.  Did the system display an entry as described in step 12? 

• 

If yes, press the Ctrl and d keys simultaneously. 
Result:  The system reboots and displays the CDE Login window. 

• 

If no, contact Cisco Services. 

14.  Log on to the CDE of the DNCS as dncs user. 
15.  Log on to an xterm window as root user.
