Process Information
1.
Make sure the lacquer is cured properly before beginning the Top Coat Rubbing procedure.
2.
Use the finest grit paper possible to cut down tops. Any scratches put in must be taken out to obtain the high level finishes.
3.
Use plenty of cutting oil to obtain a consistent and even result.
4.
Recommend loading several layers of paper on the machine to save time.
5.
Be careful not to over cut the lacquer finish. If some orange peel or minor defects remains after coated abrasives
cut down, the Scotch-Brite
Rolls and 3M
Finesse-it
Compounds step(s) should take them out.
6.
Clean the surface between steps with a diluted soap solution (a few drops of common dish soap/liquid detergent
in a pint of water).
7.
If you use rags, be sure they are 100% cotton to prevent scratching the surface.
8.
Always rub in the direction of the wood grain.
9.
Use an adequate amount of Finesse-it compound(s) to keep the surface wet when using with the Scotch-Brite surface
conditioning products rubbing steps.
10. Spread out the Finesse-it compound(s) evenly on the surface with the Scotch-Brite product being used before
you begin rubbing.
11. Double loading of Scotch-Brite Clean & Finish Material Type-T may enhance results.
12. Use ebony-colored Finesse-it compounds on dark wood surfaces and ivory on light colored wood surfaces.
13. Finesse-it Final Finish Material may be applied either by hand or with Scotch-Brite High Gloss Material
to add clarity and depth to the surface.
14. Use the Finesse-it Detail Wax; a silicone-free coating that resists marring from handling; as a final step prior to packing.
Tools Used
These finishes were created using a 30-pound straight-line reciprocating sander. Similar results may be achieved with other
equipment or by hand; however, the consistency of the final results may vary.
