• Check the input signal format setting. Depending on 

the input source, you can select Auto, Multich, Ana-
log, DTS, or PCM (page 51).

• Check the digital audio output setting on the source 

component. On some games consoles, such as those 
that play DVDs, the default setting is off.

• With some DVD-Video discs, you need to select an 

audio output format from a menu.

• Depending on the input signal, some listening modes 

cannot be selected (page 42).

 

• These modes cannot be selected when no surround 

back speakers are connected.

 

• When the levels of all speakers have been calibrated 

(page 30), the maximum volume setting may change.

 

• Using cable ties to bundle audio cables with power 

cords, speaker cables, and so on may degrade the 
audio performance, so don’t do it.

• An audio cable may be picking up interference. Try 

repositioning your cables.

 

• Make sure the source material is Dolby Digital 

(page 44).

 

• Check the DVD MULTI CH IN connections 

(page 24).

• Set the audio input signal format to Multich (page 51).

 

• When DTS playback finishes and the DTS bitstream 

stops, the TX-L55 remains in DTS listening mode and 
the DTS indicator remains on. This is to prevent noise 
when you use the pause, fast forward, or fast reverse 
function on your player. If you switch your player 
from DTS to PCM, because the TX-L55 does not 
switch formats immediately, you may not hear any 
sound, in which case you should stop your player for 
about three seconds, and then resume playback.

• With some CD and LD players, you won’t be able to 

playback DTS material properly even though your 
player is connected to a digital input on the TX-L55. 
This is usually because the DTS bitstream has been 
processed (e.g., output level, sampling rate, or fre-
quency response changed) and the TX-L55 doesn’t 
recognize it as a genuine DTS signal. In such cases, 
you may hear noise.

• When playing DTS material, using the pause, fast for-

ward, or fast reverse function on your player may pro-
duce a short audible noise. This is not a malfunction.

 

• Make sure that all video connecting plugs are pushed 

in all the way (page 20).

• Make sure that each video component is properly con-

nected.

• The TX-L55 doesn’t convert between video formats. 

It works as a video signal switcher. Composite video 
input signals are output only by the composite video 
output. S-Video input signals are output only by the 
S-Video output. And component video input signals 
are output only by the component video outputs.

• On your TV, make sure that the video input to which 

the TX-L55 is connected is selected.

 

• Relocate your antenna.
• Move the TX-L55 away from your TV or computer.
• Try using the AUTO FM mode (page 36).
• Passing cars and airplanes can cause interference.
• Concrete walls weaken radio signals.
• If none of the above improves reception, install an out-

door antenna.

 

• Make sure that the batteries are installed with the cor-

rect polarity (page 7).

• Install new batteries. Don’t mix different types of bat-

teries or old and new batteries (page 7).

• Make sure that the remote controller is not too far 

away from the TX-L55, and that there’s no obstruction 
between the remote controller and the TX-L55’s 
remote control sensor (page 7).
