IBM System Storage DS6000 Series: Copy Services with IBM System z
3.1  System and hardware requirements
The DS Storage Manager is a Web-based graphical user interface (GUI) that is used to 
perform logical configuration and Copy Services management functions. It can be accessed 
with a Web browser from any location that has network access to the DS management 
console.
The DS Storage Manager software must be installed on a user-provided computer. We refer 
to this computer as the DS Storage Management Console (SMC). 
Because the DS Storage Manager is required to manage the DS6000, to perform Copy 
Services operations, or to allow remote service, the DS SMC computer must always be on.
A management console is the configuration, service, and management portal for the DS6000 
series. You must have a computer to use as the management console and this computer 
must meet the following minimum set of hardware and operating system compatibility 
requirements:

1.4 GHz Pentium® 4

256 KB cache
򐂰
512 MB memory
򐂰
1 GB disk space for the DS Storage Manager software
򐂰
1 GB work space per managed Integrated RAID Controller (IRC)
򐂰
IP Network connectivity to each RAID controller card
It is also useful to have:

IP network connectivity to an external network to enable remote support
򐂰
Serial connectivity to the DS6000
3.1.1  Supported operating systems
The SMC is supported by the following operating systems:

Supported browsers
The currently supported browsers for accessing the DS Storage Manager are:

3.2  Installation modes
Install the DS Storage Manager using a graphical or silent mode for the Windows operating 
systems. Access it using a Web browser from any location that has network access.
