Using the Manager Interface for System Maintenance
 
Back Up and Restore Configuration
You can save the router configuration settings to a disk as a binary file. You can also restore the 
settings from the file at a later time. Saving and restoring the router configuration lets you restore 
the router to working order if the configuration information in the router is lost or damaged. 
You can also use the configuration file to configure a new router of the same type if it becomes 
necessary to replace the router.
NETGEAR highly recommends backing up your router configuration after the router is 
functioning. You can perform the backup and restore operations through a serial connection using 
a terminal emulation program (such as HyperTerm), or over the LAN using the Telnet protocol and 
a third-party FTP program. The procedures are described in the following sections.
Backing Up and Restoring the Configuration with a Serial 
Connection
Your serial communications software must have the ability to transfer data using the XMODEM 
Protocol. 
To back up the configuration with a serial connection:
1.
Establish a serial connection with the router.

Select Menu 24 - System Maintenance.
3.
Enter 5 to select Backup Configuration.
You are prompted to receive the file using the XMODEM transfer function of your terminal 
emulation program.
To restore the configuration:
1.

Enter 6 to select Restore Configuration.
You are prompted to send the file using the XMODEM transfer function of your 
terminal-emulation program.
