Selecting a dynamic IP address in Windows XP or
Windows 2000
Residential gateways and broadband routers automatically assign IP addresses to
the computers on their networks using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol) technology. If you are using a DHCP-capable gateway or router you will
not need to assign static IP addresses.
To configure your computer to obtain a dynamic IP address:
From the Windows Desktop, click
Start
(in the lower left corner of your
screen), then double-click
Control Panel
. The Control Panel screen opens.
Double-click
Network Connections
, right-click
Local Area Connections
then click
Properties
. The Local Area Connection x Properties screen opens.
