RS/6000 43P 7043 Models 150 and 260 Handbook
performs a simple test on them. The system firmware displays the device
name or device icon being tested. After the keyboard name or icon appears,
you can enter the Systems Management Services menu by hitting the 1 key
(on a ASCII terminal) or the F1 key (on a graphics terminal).
You can also enter one of the following:
  • 5 (on a ASCII terminal) or F5 (on a graphics terminal) to start the
Stand-Alone Diagnostics (CD).
  • 6 (on a ASCII terminal) or F6 to start the On-line Diagnostics (Hard Disk)
Depending on the boot device, a checkpoint may be displayed on the
operator panel for an extended period of time while the boot image is
retrieved from the device. If a bootable image is found, then the system unit
loads and starts the operating system. The AIX Boot code indicates LED
progress codes in the range from 05XX to 09XX. After the AIX Boot is
completed, the AIX login prompt appears on the main console.
If no bootable operating system image is found on any of the storage devices
listed in the system firmware boot list, then the system unit attempts to boot
again. With each attempt, you have the opportunity to start the System
Management Services (SMS) as described in 6.7.1, “SMS Start-Up” on page
173.
6.5.3  Typical Boot Sequence for RS/6000 43P 7043 Model 260
Because of its integrated service processor, the boot sequence of the Model
260 is different than the Model 150.
After the A/C power is turned on, the System Support Controller (SSC)
start-up begins, and releases reset to the service processor. If the SSC
cannot communicate with the service processor, the LED displays a
4BA00000 code. If the service processor is not present, the LED displays
4BA00001.
