I/O Modules
The I/O Modules (IOMs) plug into the DIN connectors on the top of both the MSM and the ESM (see Figure 4-5). All
ZX-250 switches can (with an ESM installed) support up to four IOMs, providing a total of 15 ATM ports (Port B4 is
reserved for use by the CPU). To access, add, or replace IOMs, the switch module to which they correspond must be
accessed. IOMs are user serviceable.

Removing a Switch Module
The SmartCell ZX-250 ATM switch’s MSM is located in the bottom switch module slot; the ESM (if present) is located
in the top slot. When accessing the switch modules, use the following procedure:

Power off the unit by switching the power switch (located in the back) to off.

Disconnect all user port cables from I/O modules. It may be useful to label cables for easy

Remove the front bezel from the chassis base by gently separating the six spring-loaded fasteners on
