cable to the host computer. The PowerVault 2xxS storage system is SAF-TE 1.0-
compliant and SES (draft)-compliant.
Follow-mode control of the storage system power. (In follow mode, the storage
system automatically mirrors the power state of the host computer.)
NOTE: For the PowerVault 2xxS to power on, the PowerVault 2xxS must be
attached to a host adapter and the host server must be powered on.
Rack or stand-alone (tower) configuration support.
Multiple cable-length options:
When the storage system has an enclosure services module (ESM) or SCSI
management module (SMM), the system supports SCSI cables up to 10
meters (m) long between the storage system and the host computer.
When the storage system has an enclosure services expander module
(ESEM) or SCSI expander management module (SEMM), the system sup-
ports SCSI cables up to 20 m long between the storage system and the host
computer.
System security provided by a key-locking mechanism for the hard-disk drive
carriers.
ESEM features:
Use of technology provided by the Ultra2-multimode SCSI bus expander chip
SCSI cable support for longer cables (up to 20 m)
Cluster operation support
NOTE: The ESEM is labeled "ES Expander Module." The label is located adjacent
to the SCSI connector.
SEMM features:
Use of technology provided by the Ultra3 multimode SCSI bus expander chip
SCSI cable support for longer cables (up to 20 m)
Cluster operation support
NOTE: The SEMM is labeled "SCSI Expander Mngmt Module." The label is
located adjacent to the SCSI connector.
Over the lifetime of the PowerVault 2xxS, Dell has continued to upgrade the capa-
bilities of the PowerVault storage system. Table 1-1 summarizes the capabilities
of the PowerVault 2xxS enclosure modules. These modules include: ESM,
ESEM, SMM, and SEMM.
