To Set the Date and Time
1. The LCD shows
‘ENTER TIME DATE’.
2. Press [ ] or [ ] to select
the hour digits.
3. Press [ERASE] to confirm and go to the next entry.
4. Press [ ] or [ ] to select the minute digits.
5. Press [ERASE] to confirm and go to the next entry.
6. Press [ ] or [ ] to select the month digits.
7. Press [ERASE] to confirm and go to the next entry.
8. Press [ ] or [ ] to select the date digits.
9. Press [ERASE] to confirm.
10. The LCD shows
‘TOTAL:00 NEW:00’,
which means both the
total call and new call
counter are zero.
LCD Contrast Control
To adjust the contrast of the LCD, press and release
the [CONTRAST] to make the LCD darker (from lighter)
or lighter (from darker) depending upon the room’s
lighting conditions.
TELEPHONE OPERATION
Receiving a Call
1. When your phone rings, pick up the handset and
use it like any basic telephone.
2. Hang up the handset to release the telephone line
when your conversation is completed.
NOTE: If your radio is on, it will automatically be
silenced when the handset is removed from the cradle.
The radio will resume playing when the handset is put
back in the cradle.
Dialing a Call
NOTE: Your Conairphone
TM 
features an illuminated dial
keypad light for dialing in a darkened room.
1. Pick up the handset and wait for a dial tone.
2. Press the keypad for the telephone number you wish
to dial.
TELEPHONE FEATURES
Tone/Pulse Switch
Set switch to your type of service. If you don’t know
whether you have tone or pulse:
1. Put the switch on “TONE”.
2. When you have a dial tone, press any key on the
keypad. If the dial tone stops, leave it on “TONE”. If
not, change the setting to “PULSE”.
Receiver Volume  Control
The receiver volume control is located on the face of
the handset of your phone. This enables you to adjust
the receiver volume from normal to high for a better
listening level.
Ringer Off/Low/High
Your CID400 features a harmonic dual tone ringer that
can be adjusted from a loud (HI) to a soft (LO) sound
level. When you don’t want to be disturbed, slide the
switch to the OFF position. You can still make outgoing
calls without being disturbed by incoming calls.
Mute
To talk to someone on your end of the phone without
the caller hearing your conversation, press and hold
the [MUTE]. Release the [MUTE] to return to your
telephone conversation.
Last Number Redial
Automatically redials the last number called. If the
number was busy or unanswered:
a. Hang up the HANDSET on the base (or depress
the hook switch or [RESET]).
b. Lift the HANDSET (or release the hook switch).
c. Press [REDIAL].
Flash
The FLASH button can be used to obtain a new dial
tone after ending a call. The FLASH button is also a
useful feature for special telephone services such as
Call Waiting and Three-Way Calling.
Hearing Aid Compatibility
The Conairphone
TM
 is compatible with inductively
coupled hearing aids.
Adjustable Display
You can adjust the display panel to four different viewing
angles of your choice.
Base Stand
You can adjust the base stand to have a comfortable
viewing angle, if your unit is at a higher position.
SETTING UP YOUR CID400
DO NOT CONNECT the line cord to the wall outlet
until the Caller ID setup has been completed.
To Set the Language
The LCD shows ‘ENTER LANGUAGE’ followed by a
choice of 3 languages (English, Spanish, French). If
your display does not appear this way, press and hold
both [ ] and [ ] for 4 seconds.
1. The LCD then shows
‘ENG ESP FRA’.
2. The ‘ENG’ is BLINKING.
Press [ ] or [ ] to select
‘ENG’, ‘ESP’, or ‘FRA’.
3. Press [ERASE] to confirm.
To Set the Area Code
1. The LCD shows ‘ENTER
AREA CODE’. The first
digit ‘–’ of the area code
will blink.
2. Press [ ] or [ ] to enter the area code.
3. Press [ERASE] to confirm and go to next entry.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until 3-digit area code is set.
CALLER ID OPERATION
NOTES:
• Battery is required for Caller ID operation.
• Caller ID is a special telephone service. You must
subscribe to Caller ID from your local phone
company.
Received Call
If only the caller’s phone
number is received, the
LCD shows the caller’s
phone number with the time
and date it was received. The ‘NEW’ icon turns on and
New Call LED blinks.
Caller ID (Transmission) Error
If an incorrect, invalid or
incomplete Caller ID signal
is received, the LCD shows
‘-LINE ERROR-’.
Caller ID Private Call (Blocked)
If the name and number are
not available due to the
caller’s restriction, the LCD
shows ‘-PRIVATE CALL-’
with the time and date received. The ‘NEW’ icon turns
on and New Call LED blinks.
Caller ID Out of Area (Data Not Available)
If the name and number
are not available, the LCD
will show ‘-UNAVAILABLE-
’ with the call’s time and
date. The ‘NEW’ icon turns on and New Call LED
blinks.
NOTE: If no key is pressed
within 20 seconds, the LCD
will show the ‘Answer-
Ready’ mode, and display
the total call counter, new call counter, current time
and date.
