With this function you can adjust the volume of each 
speaker so that all speakers can be heard equally at the 
listening position.
 
Notes:
• Since the HT-R820THX supports THX, the test 
tone is output at the standard level of 0 dB (abso-
lute volume setting 62). If you normally listen at 
volume settings below this, be careful because the 
test tone will be much louder.
 
• The volume cannot be adjusted while the speaker lev-
els are being set.
 
Note:
 
• This procedure can also be performed by using the 
remote controller. First press the [TEST TONE] but-
ton to output the test tone. Use the [LEVEL–] and 
[LEVEL+] buttons to adjust the levels, and use the 
[CH SEL] button to select the speakers.
When using a handheld sound level meter, calibrate each 
speaker channel to 75 dB SPL at the seating position, 
measured with C-weighting and slow reading.
 
Speaker Levels

Press the [AMP] button followed 
by the [SETUP] button on the 
remote controller.
Speaker levels cannot be set while the 
HT-R820THX is muted, headphones are con-
nected, Speaker B is on, or the multichannel 
input is being used.

Use the Up and Down [
]/[
buttons to select “3. Level Cal,” 
and then press the [ENTER] but-
ton.
 
A pink noise test tone is output by the 
front left speaker.

Use the Left and Right [
]/[
buttons to adjust the speaker 
level, and use the Down [
] but-
ton to select the next speaker.
 
The level can be adjusted from –12 to 
+12 dB in 1 dB steps (–15 to +12 dB 
for the subwoofer).

Repeat step 3 so that the level of 
the test tone from each speaker 
is the same.
 
Speakers that you set to No or None in 
the Speaker Configuration (page 50) do 
not output the test tone.

Press the [SETUP] button.
 
Setup closes.
Don’t forget to turn down the volume if 
you turned it up while setting the levels.
