CREE® (USA), one of the market
leaders in LED technology, have suc-
cessfully developed a high performance
LED for torches.
The main feature of this technology
is its extreme light intensity and
excellent reliability. Operating life
time of the CREE LED is over 50,000
hours – that would be over 5 years
of non-stop use. Life time in normal
everyday use, where the torch would
normally be switched off when not in
use, is estimated to be in the region of
30 years (see chart).
A further advantage of this technology,
in comparison to most competitive
products, is that during long periods of
operation and the resulting higher tem-
