DMP Restarts Unexpectedly
Q. Why would a DMP reboot itself?
A.
Rather than crashing when they run low on memory, DMPs restart automatically. The restart clears
their memory and causes downtime of much less than 1 minute. This momentary interruption is
prefereable to the lengthy downtime that a hard crash would cause.
Tip
In the rare case that a DMP does run out of memory and restart automatically, a SWF asset is almost
always responsible.
Our content creation guidelines on Cisco.com explain how to optimize SWF assets for
DMP playback.
DMP Reset Button
Q. What are the purpose and correct use of the Reset button on my DMP?
A.
You can use the Reset button in either of two different ways (CSCth71099).
Restart (reboot) your DMP
— Press the Reset button and release it immediately. Your DMP should
beep one time (unless it is a DMP 4310G, which does not beep), and then restart.
Erase all DMP settings
— After you press and hold the Reset button for at least 10 seconds, your
DMP should beep two times (unless it is a DMP 4310G, which does not beep). You have erased
every setting and restored Cisco factory-default settings to the firmware on your DMP. You
must configure it as you would configure a factory-new DMP.
Q. When I erase DMP settings, are its local storage volumes (internal and USB) erased, too?
A.
No. They are not erased.
DMP Use of Power-over-Ethernet
Q. What will happen if I try to use AC power and PoE simultaneously on a DMP?
A.
The PoE circuit of a DMP-4310 is always enabled, even when both PoE power and AC power are
connected.
Q. Does my use of PoE affect the operation of any other DMP feature?
A.
A DMP 4310G has two USB interfaces on its chassis. When you use PoE to power a DMP 4310G,
we recommend that you use no more than one of these USB interfaces at a time. IEEE 802.3af PoE
is limited in its capacity and might not be sufficient to power your DMP and two USB peripherals
simultaneously.
