New Software Features in Release 12.2 T
Important Notes
Committed Access Rate
Cisco 826, Cisco 827, and Cisco 827-4V routers now support Committed Access Rate (CAR). CAR can
be used to rate-limit traffic based on certain matching criteria such as incoming interface, IP precedence,
QoS group, or IP access list criteria. CAR provides configurable actions, such as transmit, drop, set
precedence, or set QoS group, when traffic conforms to or exceeds the rate limit.
The CAR feature performs the following functions:
Limits the input or output transmission rate on an interface or subinterface based on a flexible set of
criteria.
Classifies packets by setting the IP precedence or Quality of Service (QoS) group, which is a class
identifier that is internal to the router.
IP Named Access Lists
Cisco 801–804 routers now support the IP Named Access Lists feature. Using this feature, you can
identify IP access lists with an alphanumeric string (a name) rather than a number. Named access lists
enable you to configure more IP access lists in a router than numbered access lists. This feature is
required to support the Virtual Private Network (VPN) Solution Center, which does not operate with
numbered access lists.
