Disc Operations
The SA-CD standard is based on Direct
Stream Digital (DSD) technology. This
new direct-stream digital format
comprises a 1-bit system that has a digital
sampling frequency 64 times higher than
that of conventional audio CD.
There are three types of SA-CD discs:
single layer, dual layer and hybrid. Each
type contains a High Density (HD) layer
that has two separate data areas: a High
Quality Stereo area and a High Quality
Multi-channel area. Recorded information
can be contained in both areas.
– A single layer disc has one HD layer.
– A dual layer disc has two HD layers.
Twice the information of a single layer
disk can be stored due to the second
HD layer.
– A hybrid disc has one HD layer and one
standard CD layer, making it playable on
standard CD players.
